Papa’aloa Elderly Housing is an elderly independent living apartment complex located in the village of Papa’aloa, situated 24 miles outside of Hilo along the Hamakua coast. This hidden gem located at 35-1981 Old Mamalahoa Highway was recently completed in October 2022 and is near the Papa’aloa Country Store and Café, and the Papa’aloa U.S. Post Office.

This project is comprised of 10 duplexes, each having vinyl flooring throughout. Kitchens are an open floor plan open to the living space and include wood cabinetry with Formica countertops, electric Energy Star refrigerators and ranges, and are furnished with a range hood and garbage disposal. Bathrooms are equipped with a roll in shower. Bedrooms open into the living space with pocket doors as well as a hinged door that leads into a small hallway. Ceiling fans and window blinds complete the space. A small lanai abuts the entrance for outdoor seating.

A small community space is equipped with a refrigerator, kitchen sink and cabinetry for tenant use. The community building also houses a resident manager’s office, public bathroom, and a laundry room for tenant use.

This property is limited to households who’s head, co-head, or spouse are 62 years or over only.
