Big Island Housing Foundation

is Here for Tenant Support and Services

As a local nonprofit, Big Island Housing Foundation has been helping low-income and elderly tenants in the Hilo, Kea'au, Pap'aloa, Waimea, and Captain Cook areas of Hawaii for more than 50 years. We receive federal and state subsidies and are not competing with the private market regarding amenities and other factors.

Still, we strive to provide safe, clean, and sanitary housing for all low-income and elderly tenants who need it. Multifamily housing options are most common, and we will direct applicants toward the housing options they have and can qualify for to help them find what they need as quickly and efficiently as possible.

We manage our properties and the properties of other nonprofits in the area. Most properties are eligible for Section 8 or Low Income Housing Tax Credits. We also develop some of our properties, and we maintain our properties to standards that rival private sector housing options. We offer everything from studio / 1 bath options to 3-bedroom / 1 1/2 bath locations, and every property has an onsite resident manager.
