Riverside Apartments is a multi-family housing complex located in Downtown Hilo at the entrance to Wainaku. The project is comprised of a six-story walkup apartment building with a combined total of 74 units. There are 12 one-bedroom/one-bath units with approximately 559 sq. ft. living space; 56 two-bedroom/one-bath units with approximately 620 sq. ft. of living space (including the Resident Manager’s non-revenue unit); and 6 three-bedroom/one and one-half-bath units with approximately 880 sq. ft. of living space.
In November 2013 the property was purchased by UHC 00382 Hilo, L.P. as a Low Income Housing Tax Credit property, with HUD Project-Based Section 8 subsidy applicable to 69 of the 74 units. Four of the remaining five units accept County Housing Section 8 Vouchers.
In 2014 the complex was completely renovated. Renovations included a complete rehab of all interiors, the laundry room facilities, the roof, plumbing pipes and fixtures. The exteriors of the buildings were painted and the parking lots were repaved with ADA parking and ramps installed. Landscaping and a barbeque area completed the renovations. Kitchens are equipped with a refrigerator, electric range and garbage disposal. Bathrooms are equipped with a basin, water closet and a tub/shower combination. Four of the units are ADA accessible and an additional two units are available for the hearing-impaired. A new site Office was installed at the 3rd level parking area.
