Papa’aloa Elderly Housing is an elderly independent living complex located in the village of Papa’aloa, situated 24 miles outside of Hilo along the Hamakua coast. The project is comprised of five plantation style buildings with two units per building. There are eight two-bedroom/one bath, one one-bedroom/one-bath, and one studio/one-bath units. All units have vinyl tile floors, emergency “pull” bells, and ample storage throughout. Kitchens are equipped with a refrigerator and an electric range. Bathrooms are equipped with a basin, water closet shower. All tenants are provided with wireless emergency pendants at no extra costs.
The property has an on-site laundry facility and a community center. Coordinated Services provides transportation into Hilo for elderly residents.
Although this County of Hawaii housing project has no direct subsidy, rents are below market rates.
